Notice of Server Downtime for Monday Aug 27 2012

Date: Monday August 27, 2012

Time: Between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for a length of no more than 1 hour

Purpose: We will be implementing additional server hardware and software to existing virtual servers as a prerequisite for a complete Citrix upgrade which will occur later on this month.   Even though the time displayed above is a range of 4 hours, we do not expect the downtime to occur for more than 1 hour.  If things go as planned, the outage could be as little as 30 minutes within the 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. window.

Affected Areas/Systems: During the outage, access to the following systems and software will not be possible: email for staff, Citrix, A+, AES Health Curriculum, FileMaker Pro (IEP Program), Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI), Moodle, printing for most Windows 7 computers.

This work will not affect access to network drives, Internet access, EHOVE’s website, DASL, Progress Book, SchoolDesx, the online work order system, email for students, and NOECA’s fiscal services.

Notice of Server Maintenance on Thurs., Dec. 29, 2011

Date: Thursday, December 29, 2011

Time: Between 7:30am and 9:00am

Purpose: We will be replacing a faulty battery on the main server’s backup power supply and will be performing software updates on the primary servers.  This was originally scheduled during the Thanksgiving break, but was later canceled.

Affected Areas/Systems: During parts of the maintenance window, all access to all of the main servers will be down for all buildings (including off campus access).  Access to network drives, network printers, the wireless network, the Citrix Portal, and network applications will all be down. 

Other Notes:

Although this maintenance will occur during the break, remember that items such as email or the Citrix Portal that you can normally access from off campus on home computers or on cell phones will exhibit difficulties, loss of connection or error messages during this time.

Several NOECA Services Are Down

Here is the timeline of events so far:
  • Mon., Dec. 12 at 4:04 a.m. - Our local monitoring device alerted us that we lost Internet connectivity.
  • Mon., Dec. 12 at 6:28 a.m. - NOECA sent out a text message that NOECA services are currently down.
  • Mon., Dec. 12 at 10:00 a.m. - Internet connectivity was restored to the district.
  • Mon., Dec. 12 at 1:38 p.m. - NOECA sent out a text message that restoration of services is in progress and they have no ETA at this time.
  • Mon., Dec. 12 at 5:43 p.m. - NOECA sent out a text message that restoration of services is still in progress.
  • Tue., Dec. 13 at 3:58 a.m. - NOECA sent out a text message that restoration of services is still in progress.
  • Tue., Dec. 13 at 12:44 p.m. - NOECA sent out a text message that restoration of services is still in progress and MailMarshal will be up soon.  At this point Progress Book and DASL are still not responding and outside email is not passing.
  • Tue., Dec. 13 at 1:03 p.m. - NOECA sent out a text message that email service has been restored.  Sortly after that, EHOVE's mail server began to send out 256 email messages that had been queued for delivery off campus.  All of the messages were processed within a matter of minutes.
  • Wed., Dec. 14 at 6:57 a.m. - Dave Jenkins sent out an email to all high school staff that DASL has been restored, but Progress Book remains down at this time.
  • Wed., Dec. 14 at 7:48 a.m. - NOECA sent out a text/email message that Progress Book is back up.
  • Wed., Dec. 14 at 7:51 a.m. - Dustin Hindel sent out an email to all high school staff that Progress Book has been restored. 

Notice of Citrix Maintenance on Fri. Sept. 23rd 2011

Date: Friday 9/23/2011

 

Time: Between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

 

Description: We will be performing a software upgrade on the Citrix system.  Citrix will be down for the majority of the day during the times noted above.  The website address https://portal.ehove.net may also be inaccessible for most of the maintenance window.  This work is necessary to provide more reliable access to the Citrix system and applications and to correct a known problem with the Citrix gateway that affects the version of the software that we currently have installed.  The process of upgrading the software is an extensive process which will require several hours to complete. 

 

Note that all applications normally available on the Citrix Portal such as A+ Learning System, AES Health Curriculum, FileMaker Pro Special EdNet (for IEP’s), Geometer’s Sketchpad, Microsoft Office 2010 (through the Citrix Portal only), Scholastic Achievement Manager, Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI), Sunburst Green Globs, TI Interactive, TimeMaps and access to network drives through the Portal will all be inaccessible during this time. 

Notice of Server/Network Maintenance on June 6th, 2011

Date: Monday, June 6, 2011

Time: Between 6:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.

Purpose: We will be modifying network cabling and setting up backup battery power equipment on our core networking equipment.  We will also be restarting our main servers while performing the other work in order to minimize downtime. 

Affected Areas/Systems: During this maintenance window, all access from EHOVE to the internet and our key servers will be down for all buildings (including off campus access).  Access to network drives, network printers, email (including on Smartphones), the wireless network, the Citrix Portal, and network applications will all be down.  If things go as planned, all areas will back online by 7:45 a.m.  Computers may need to be restarted after the maintenance is complete in order to reconnect to the network.

ProgressBook Emergency Downtime

From NOECA at 5:50 a.m. on Thursday, April 21:

The Progressbook application will be unavailable for the next several hours and could be the entire day. There was an unexpected failure with the nightly back up job that prevented the Progressbook database server from coming back online as it should.

In order to get this server back to it's proper working state in the safest way possible without the loss of data I have followed VMWare's support recommendation to bring the entire application down. 

Notice of Citrix/Server/Email Maintenance on Feb 18, 2011

Date: Friday 2/18/2011

Time: Between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Description: We will be performing work to several servers as well as the Citrix Portal in order to upgrade its components.  You should expect a brief period of time where you will not be able to access services/programs on the list below.  The interruption for each of these is not expected to last more than about 10 minutes each as we restart each of the servers that these services and programs reside on.  This work is necessary to provide more reliable access and higher performance with Citrix apps and programs as well as other virtual servers.

The list of affected services/programs/applications are:

Notice of Voicemail Maintenance on January 10, 2011

Date: Monday 1/10/2011

Time: Sometime between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Description: We will be replacing our voicemail server with a new one and we will be upgrading the line cards and software for voicemail to a new version.  You should expect a period of several hours where you will not be able to access any of your voicemail messages as we move the messages from one server to the other and replace the server.  Telephone service should NOT be interrupted at any time.  You will be able to place and receive calls on campus and off campus without interruption.  However, any calls placed during the outage will ring continuously until the calling party hangs up.  The phone system will not prompt callers to leave messages while the voicemail server is down.  The main greeting (“Thank you for calling EHOVE Career Center…”) will also not be functioning.  No previously recorded voicemail messages will be lost.
