Laptop Lab Procedures for Staff

The following is a list of procedures that staff must perform when using a laptop lab.
  1. Retrieve the laptop cart from its storage location.  Only staff is allowed to move laptop carts.  Students may not retrieve or move the laptop carts.
  2. Plug in the laptop cart to a nearby electrical outlet making sure the cord is not a trip hazard.
  3. Unlock the cart.
  4. Check the lab before using any of the laptops:
    • Check that ALL laptops are powered off prior to use.
    • Check that ALL laptops are present and in their proper numbered slot.
    • Check that ALL laptops are plugged in to their chargers.
    • If you discover a problem or issue prior to use of the laptop cart please report it to your supervisor and submit an IT Work Order if the issues require repair or technical assistance.
  5. Some carts require you to flip a switch from CHARGE to AUX in order to use.  The printer should turn on when the switch is in the proper position.
  6. Ensure students fill out the log book legibly and completely.
  7. Report ALL problems/damage IMMEDIATELY via an IT Work Order.
    • When reporting an issue, please include the username of the person that encountered the error or caused the damage along with the computer number which is usually found on a label on the top or bottom of the laptop.  Please include the full computer name so that we know which cart to check (i.e. B-LAPTOP3-06).
    • Specify exactly with as much detail as possible what problem or damage has occurred.
  8. Check the lab after your students are finished using the laptops:
    • Check that ALL laptops are powered off after use.
    • Check that ALL laptops are present and in their proper numbered slot.
    • Check that ALL laptops are plugged in to their chargers.
  9. On laptop carts that require you to flip a switch from AUX to CHARGE, flip the switch back to CHARGE so that the batteries in the laptops can charge back up.
  10. Lock the cart when it is not in use.
