FAQ: Phone and Voicemail System

Can I access my voicemail messages from off campus?

Yes, it is very easy to access your voicemail from off-campus.  Just call one of EHOVE's phone numbers (including the toll free number) and press # when you hear the main greeting.  Then dial your mailbox number, which is the same as your extension.  Finally, dial your security code as you normally would.  Also, see the Knowledge Base article for this procedure.

How can I set or change my name or personal greeting?

  1. Dial 100 to log into your voicemail.
  2. Enter your security code.
  3. Press U [8] for user options.
  4. Press 1 for personal options.
    • Press 3 to record a personal greeting.
    • Press 5 to record your name.

How can I change my voicemail security code?

  1. Dial 100 to log into your voicemail.
  2. Enter your security code.
  3. Press U [8] for user options.
  4. Press 1 for personal options.
  5. Press 4 to change your security code.

Can I transfer a caller directly to someone's voicemail?

Yes, you can transfer a caller directly to voicemail without waiting through all of the rings.  See the Knowledge Base article for instructions on how to do this using either a digital feature phone or a single line phone.  

Why do I have trouble dialing a long distance phone number?

Some extensions have long distance restrictions where the caller will need to enter their social security number in order to call long distance.  These extensions are usually located in classrooms or classroom labs.  To dial long distance perform the following steps:
  1. Dial 9 + 1 + Area Code + Number
  2. After the fast tone, dial your Social Security Number.

How can I dial a long distance phone number?

For most areas, you can just dial 9 + 1 + Area Code + Number.  But, some areas like classrooms have restrictions on dialing long distance.  Your Social Security Number will need to be entered after dialing the number in order to place the call in those situations.  

How can I transfer a call to another extension?

On a single line phone:
  1. Ask the connected party to wait.
  2. Press the hook switch down for about a second (or press Flash if your phone has a flash button).
  3. Dial the extension number where you want the call transferred.
  4. Announce the call when the called party answers and hang up.
    OR
    Hang up without announcing the call.

On a digital feature phone:
  1. Ask the connected party to wait.

  3. Dial the extension number where you want the call transferred.
  4. Announce the call when the called party answers and hang up.

What is the Do Not Disturb feature?

The Do Not Disturb (DND) feature denies all callers access to your extension.

How can I activate/cancel the Do Not Disturb feature?

What is the Forward All Calls feature?

The Call Forward - All Calls feature lets you forward all calls to another extension or to the switchboard.

How can I activate/cancel the Forward All Calls feature?

Can I automatically forward calls to another extension when my extension is busy or when the call is not answered?

Yes, that feature is called the Forward Busy/No Answer feature.  See the Knowledge Base article about this feature.

How do I put a caller on hold?

How do I redial a number?

Some phones have redial enabled, but not all.  If your extension does not have this feature enabled, submit an IT request to have the feature enabled on your extension.  All digital feature phones have this feature enabled by default.  There is typically a REDIAL button programmed on the far right of the 3rd row on 24-button phones or the 1st row on 12-button phones.  This button can be used to redial the last number that was dialed.  On single line phones, press # 8. To redial the last number called.

What is Camp-On?

The Camp-On feature lets the phone system perform an automatic callback to your extension when the busy extension or outside line is available.  The system sends a cal waiting tone to the busy extension if you wait on the line.  You can continue to use your extension for additional calls while you are in the camp-on mode. 

How can I activate/cancel Camp-On?

How many digits does my voicemail security code need to be?

Your security code can be between 4 to 15 digits.

How can I pick up my voicemail from another phone on campus?

  1. Dial 100 from any phone.
  2. At the security code prompt dial * (star) # (pound).
  3. Enter your mailbox number (same as your extension number).
  4. Enter your security code.
